DUBAI: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari Tuesday said Dr. Asim Hussain’s ‘heart attack’ raises a number of questions.
In a statement issued here, Asif Zardari demanded of the government to ensure provision of best possible medical facilities to Dr. Asim Hussain.
“The allegation that Dr Asim Hussain extended support to terrorists itself points to misuse of authority,” the PPP Co-chairman said.
He said Dr Asim was being tortured both mentally and physically on the basis of allegations and termed it a misuse of the action taken by the court and administration.
Former petroleum adviser and chairman Sindh Higher Education Commission, Dr Asim Hussain was taken into custody by officials in plain clothes on August 26 in a raid on his office and shifted to an undisclosed location for interrogation.
The following day an anti-terrorism court in Karachi remanded Dr Asim into Rangers custody for 90 days.
Later, Rangers told an Anti-Terrorism Court, Karachi that Dr Asim was taken into custody for 90 days on charges of embezzlement and using the money for funding terrorist acts.
