NAROWAL: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif visited the flood affected areas here on Saturday.
During his visit, Prime Minister Sharif distributed cheques worth Rs0.5 million as compensation for flood affectees who had lost family members. The prime minister also evaluated rescue and relief efforts. The prime minister was accompanied by Ahsan Iqbal, Parvez Rasheed and other leaders.
According to sources, more than 200 villages were submerged and standing crops on several acres destroyed due to high flood in River Tawi, Nalluh Dek and Basantar. The Narowal road has also been closed for traffic, disconnecting the road link with Muridke.
Moreover, road links and bridges were washed away by the gushing water in Sialkot and Rajanpur, as a result people were left stranded.
Flood in the River Chenab is currently crossing the Head Qadirabad where the local residents have already vacated their places and are facing severe commotion. A bridge was washed away in Sialkot due to high tide in the River Tawi.
More than two-dozen villages of Sialkot and Gujranwala were submerged in floodwater. An unfortunate incident occurred in village Bhaiya where two children died while trying to save the animals in the village.
Flood warning has been issued for more than 150 villages adjacent to Chiniot near River Chenab and for five tehsils due to high flood in River Sutlej
