PESHAWAR: Chief Justice Peshawar High Court (PHC), Dost Muhammad Khan has directed to halt the results of NA-5 (Nowshera) and NA-27 (Lakki Marwat).
Justice Khan made the decision after he took notice of women not being allowed to vote in these constituencies during by-elections. The chief justice also directed concerned officials to arrest members of the committee who stopped women from exercising their right of vote in Jalozai.
Women could not cast their vote at seven polling stations in Nowshera and a few of Lakki Marwat after a verbal agreement between political, religious parties and local leaders. Directives were also issued to increase the polling time by 1.5 hours at these constituencies.
Votes were finally cast by women in these areas after the chief justice had taken notice of the situation but by then only a few hours were left for polling.
