Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani rejects MQM resignations
ISLAMABAD: Chairman Senate Raza Rabbani on Monday rejected the resignations of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) senators.

Rabbani said that the MQM senators submitted their resignations in protest and they cannot be accepted without accurate verification.

Giving a ruling on the resignations, he went on to say that it seemed the resignations had a political agenda behind them.

The chairman senate added that if a member was absent for 40 days then the ruling according to law cannot be implemented immediately.

He quoted some of the Supreme Court rulings in this regard and said that the offices of the speaker and chairman senate did not work like post offices and have to abide by constitution and law to properly verify the authenticity of the resignations individually.

Law makers of MQM on August 12 had submitted their resignations in the National Assembly, Senate and Provincial Assemblies.
