Karachi: Alternate traffic routes for Ashura issued

KARACHI: The traffic police issued the alternate route plan for Muharram 10 (today) to facilitate commuters.

On Muharram 10, the central Ashura majlis will be held at Nishter Park from 7.30am, followed by the main procession.

Any vehicular traffic proceeding toward Saddar via MA Jinnah Road would not be permitted to proceed from its junction with Preedy Street and Aga Khan Road.

Traffic coming from Keamari will be terminated at Ghass Bunder Railway Quarters. All buses coming from the West Wharf and Mauripur Road will be diverted at the junction of Aga Khan Road with Edulijee Dinshaw Road, according to the plan issued by the Traffic DIG office.

The vehicles heading toward Saddar and other colonies will not be permitted to proceed toward Empress Market from the junction of Preedy Street/Sarmad Road, Preedy Street/MA Jinnah Road, Shahra-e-Liaquat/Court Road and Shahra-e-Liaquat/Muhammad Bin Qasim Road.

All traffic coming from Keamari and Mauripur Road from the side of MT Khan Road will travel via Jinnah Bridge till the time the head of the procession reaches the junction of MA Jinnah Road with Donnelly road. All traffic will be suspended from the junction of MT Khan Road with Jinnah Bridge and no vehicles will be permitted to park along the procession route.

All vehicles coming from the city side would be diverted to Soldier Bazaar Road from the intersection of MA Jinnah Road and Dr Dawood Pota Road.

The vehicles approaching Old Numaish via Shahrah-e-Quaideen (except those arriving to participate in the procession) would not be allowed to proceed from the roundabout of Shahra-e-Quaideen behind the mausoleum.

All traffic on Soldier Bazaar Road from its junction with Dr Dawood Pota Road up to its junction with Khan Bahadur Naqi Muhammad Khan Road shall flow one way.

The vehicles coming from Nazimabad will be diverted onto Nishter Road toward Zoological Garden. The vehicles coming from Liaquatabad will be diverted onto Martin Road toward Jail Road.

The vehicles would be permitted to proceed up to the central jail and then toward Jamshed Road, Dada Bhoy Noorji Road, Kashmir Road, Sharae Quaideen and Sharea Faisal up to Gora Qabrustan and then via Mubarak Shaheed Road, Iqbal Shaheed Road, Lucky Star, Sarwar Shaheed Road, Dr Dawood Pota Road and Preedy Street to their destinations.

When the procession reaches the intersection of MA Jinnah Road with Mansfield Street, the vehicles will be allowed to proceed toward 602 EME workshop, Mubarak Shaheed Road, Lucky Star, Sarwar Shaheed Road, Fatima Jinnah Road, Maulana Wafai Road (Old Stratchen Road), Dr Ziauddin Ahmed Road and MA Jinnah Road until the situation permits. From there, the vehicles shall be diverted onto II Chundrigar Road from the junction of Court Road with MR Kiyani Road.

All buses and minibuses approaching the city from Stadium Road shall proceed via New MA Jinnah Road. The vehicles will be diverted at Dada Bhoy Noorji Road toward Kashmir Road from its junction with New MA Jinnah Road and Link Road behind the Mazar-e-Quaid.

Vehicles coming from the Super Highway shall be diverted from Al-Azam Square toward Chowrangi No. 2 Nazimabad and shall proceed along Estate Avenue Road in Shershah to Mauripur Road. The vehicles approaching the city from the National Highway shall proceed via Rashid Minhas Road, Stadium Road, Sir Shah Muhammad Suleman Road, Hassan Square, Liaquatabad No. 10, Nazimabad Chowrangi No. 2, Manghopir Road, Estate Avenue Road, Shershah, Mauripur Road.

All cars would be permitted to proceed toward the procession route from Guru Mandir Roundabout. These vehicles shall be diverted onto Bahadur Yar Jang Road and again onto Khan Bahadur Naqi Muhammad Khan Road.

Under no circumstances would these vehicles be permitted to proceed along Soldier Bazaar road from the junction of Khan Bahadur Naqi Muhammad Khan Road with Bahadur Yar Jan Road.

The car traffic coming toward Mazar-e-Quaid along MA Jinnah Road will be diverted towards Bahadur Yar Jang Road. No vehicular traffic would be permitted to proceed towards old Numaish under any circumstances.
