RAWALPINDI: At least four alleged terrorists, including a woman, were killed when police carried out an operation near Chakri Road area in Rawalpindi early Thursday morning.
A child was also among the persons killed in the operation conducted in the wee hours of the day in Jorian area located near Chakri Road.
The ensuing gun battle between the law enforcers and suspected terrorists lasted for over three hours. Sounds of gunfire and explosions rang through the area during the operation.
The dead were identified as Faizan, Qaiser Mustafa, Humera Qaiser, Malaika Khatoon and Mohammad, police sources told Geo News.
According to police sources, Malaika Khatoon blew up her explosives during the operation. The alleged terrorists were said to belong to the militancy-infested northwestern tribal areas.
A sub-inspector of the Elite Force was also killed, while five other police personnel were injured in the crossfire. One of the injured policemen was said to be critically injured.
Police said they also arrested three injured terrorists belonging to a banned outfit during the operation.
Law enforcers later carried out a search operation of the surrounding areas and arrested five more suspected terrorists, who were later taken to the District Hospital Rawalpindi for treatment.
Three arrested terrorists were shifted to an undisclosed location for investigation, sources said.
