LONDON: The fate of Pervez Musharraf’s London flat was shrouded in controversy yesterday as one of his party leaders claimed to have bought the flat for £3 million but the former president’s European Point of Contact and spokesman denied the sale.
Pervez Musharraf’s spokesman in London told 'Geo News' that the news of former military ruler’s flat on sale is “false, fabricated, & fictitious”. When his attention was drawn to the sales advertisement of the flat on a property website, he said he had no idea how the flat ended up on the website.
He added: “Pervez Musharraf’s flat is not for sale; has not been on sale, and he has no intention to sell his flat. Gen Musharraf has only one bank account in the UK and it remains open under his original name. There is no question that his account has been frozen. It’s unfortunate that some disgruntled elements are spreading false & malicious news about Gen Musharraf in this sensitive time.”
The spokesman in London, a confidante of Musharraf, has keys to the flat and he has been looking after all the financial matters of the former president for a long time now. The website that originally advertised the flat sale continued to show the same flat number and pictures on Monday.
The spokesman said that the website offered the editing options but he will be taking up this matter with the website soon. Musharraf’s spokesman clarification came as a businessman in America Raja Khalid Pervaiz claimed that he had bought Muhsarraf’s flat for £3 million.
Raja Khalid Pervaiz claimed that he had struck the deal though Colonel (R) Ghayyas but Musharraf’s spokesman in London denied the sale and said that several people were now claiming different things about Musahharf to get cheap publicity.
Muhammad Ali Chohan, APML’s UK organizer, said that a former close aide to Musharraf has been ringing different media outlets to pass them false news. “We were always aware that that man is of dubious character and now he is showing his true colours by causing damage to Musharraf by giving false news. He is unhappy because Musharraf has sidelined him already for committing treachery.”
Musharraf had bought the house for £1.3 million in 2009 when he settled in London after leaving Pakistan but the website that’s offering it sale is asking for £3 million for the luxury flat.Nadeem Alvi adds from Lahore: US businessman of Pakistani origin Raja Khalid Pervaiz is father of Raja Naveed — former fiancé of Pakistani film actress Meera.
Raja Khalid claimed that he had bought the flat and the deal was settled at $5 million (Rs520 million) with Pervez Musharraf through his Staff Office Col (Retd) Ghayyas some days ago.
