The Indo-Pak Football rivalry on sports battlefield will be revived on Thursday when Pakistan’s top Football club K-Electric FC will take on India’s historic East Bengal Football Club in Sheikh Kamal International Club Championship in Chittagong.
K-Electric, the PPFL Champions, lost the opening game 3-2 to Dhaka Abhani FC on Tuesday but they’re looking forward to upset a century old club from India.
For KE’s team, the match against the Indian club is not less than a Pakistan vs India encounter.
“We are eager for the match against East Bengal,” says Essa Khan, the captain of KE Football Team.
“This match (against East Bengal) isn’t less than an India vs Pakistan game for us, we are highly motivated and looking forward to make the nation feel proud of us,” Essa added.
This is first match in recent years between top clubs from the South Asian arch rivals.
The recent political turmoil between the two countries have halted various other sports activities, including the cricket series.
But for KE’s team, this match is something which will trigger a new era in South Asian Football.
“Players know that it’s a match that will trigger the launch of a new era in South Asian Football, if done with quality, aggression and passion,” said Majid Shafiq – head coach of K-Electric.
“We know millions of prayers are with us. We take them into this match with both will and strategy to do the unexpected,” added Majid.
K-Electric’s Football team has recently rewrote the history of Pakistan football by becoming the first Pakistan football club to progress into the AFC Cup Play-Offs after overcoming the champions of Bhutan and Mongolia.
Department’s head of sports, Zabe Khan says it is a privilege for KE to be representing Pakistan in top football contests.
“The team is highly motivated and will be looking to make the nation proud.” said Zabe Khan.
The match will kick-off at 3:30PM and broadcast live on Pakistan’s first sports channel Geo Super.
