National Women Squash main round begins Wednesday

PESHAWAR: Laiba, Laila, Fozia and Saba moved to the main round after victories in the qualifying round of the 5th ICMS National Women Squash Championship which got under way here at PAF Hashim Khan Squash Complex on Tuesday.

Hailing from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Laiba Ijaz, Laila Akbar, Fozia Khan and Saba Khan (Abbottabad) secured victories against their respective rivals in the qualifying round and moved to the main round.

Laiba Ijaz is KP ranking No. 1 and was given valid card entry after winning two consecutive tournaments in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa while Fozia Khan through to the main round after being good in the national ranking while both Laila Akbar and Saba recorded victories against their respective rivals Bareera Khan and Kanwal.

Laila Akbar beat Bareera 3 0 the score was 11-9, 11-6 and 11-7 while Saba recorded victory against Kanwal in 3 1 battle the score was 7-11, 11-8, 11-9 and 11-9.

Now Laiba Ijaz will face Samar Anjum in the first round, Laila Akbar will face Fozia Khan in her first round match while Saba Khan will clash against Amin Shahbaz of Punjab.

The main round will commence from Wednesday with Zoya Khalid of ZTBL is the top seed of the Championship organizing by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with the collaboration of ICMS.

There is draw of 16 players with four qualifier and 12 players of the main round. (APP)
