Police re-arrest convicted cannibal in Bhakkar

BHAKKAR: A man who had earlier been convicted for cannibalism along with his brother was re-arrested by police here on Monday.

Police conducted a raid at the residence of Arif and Farman on a tip off from neighbours and recovered the head of a child. Arif was arrested while Farman remains at large and police are conducting raids for his arrest.

Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif has taken notice of the incident and summoned a report from the DPO.

Brothers Arif and Farman were arrested three years ago for cannibalism and a case had been lodged against them on 11 April 2011 in the Darya Khan police station. The Darya Khan civil judge sentenced the brothers to a two year jail term and Rs200,000 fine each.

The brothers were released from prison on 18 May 2013. The residents of the area protested against the release of the brothers who remained out of sight for some time. However, they returned home and once again started eating human flesh.
