DALLAS: South Asia Democracy Watch (SADeW) strongly condemning the assassination attempt on the well-known Pakistani journalist and Geo news anchorperson Hamid Mir, has said that increasing attacks on journalists have posed a daunting challenge for freedom of expression in the country.
The organization, in its emergency meeting has lodged a strong protest over the brutal tactics for silencing the media personnel.
The organization has emphasized that several journalists have also been attacked, tortured and killed in Pakistan for speaking the truth including a recent attack on another journalist Raza Rumi in Islamabad in which his driver was killed.
The organization's president Dr. Qaisar Abbas emphasized that journalism in the country has become a very dangerous profession.
SADeW Board members including Syed Fayyaz Hassan, Aftab Siddiqi, Asif Effendi, Tausif Kamal, Raja Zahid Akhtar Khanzada, Raja Muzaffar and Siraj Butt also expressed their views over attack on Hamid Mir.
They also appealed the Pakistani diaspora all over the world to protest against the ongoing efforts in Pakistan to curb freedom of expression.
