ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Foreign Office said on Friday that neither MQM chief Altaf Hussain nor his team had requested any legal assistance.
During the weekly press briefing, spokesperson Tasneem Aslam told reporters that the Foreign Office did not have details of accusations against the MQM chief. Aslam added that the government’s directives pertaining to Altaf Hussain’s return to Pakistan would be followed.
The MQM chief is in stable condition after undergoing an angiography on Thursday night at a private London hospital. Altaf Hussain is expected to meet with his lawyers on Friday.
The hospital will also hand over the MQM chief’s medical reports to the police and his legal team following which a decision will be made on Altaf Hussain remaining at the hospital or being sent to the police station.
The Scotland Yard has told Geo News that the 72 hour detention rule does not apply in the case of MQM chief Altaf Hussain.
According to Scotland Yard, Altaf Hussain’s time in detention stopped because he was not at the police station. The hours of Altaf Hussain’s detention will be counted when he is at the police station under arrest, not while he is at the hospital.
