KARACHI: Water inundated certain parts of Karachi and Thatta’s coastal belt on Thursday due to a cyclone which is likely to strike the coastal areas of Oman this Sunday.
The Met department confirms that cyclone Nanauk is not a threat to Pakistan, however as a safety measure Commissioner Karachi has enforced Section 144. The rising water also entered homes in several neighborhoods including Rheri Goth in Karachi.
Cyclone Nanauk is approximately 680 KM away from Karachi and is traveling at 55 knots (63mph). It is expected to lose strength by Sunday dropping to 30 knots (35mph) according to satellite data available to Geo News.
Due to the cyclone Pakistan’s coastal areas including Karachi, Thatta, Badin, as well as the Makran coast in Balochistan will witness light rainfall.
The MET office has advised fishermen not to be in the open sea from Friday till Sunday.
Meanwhile the Sindh government has placed the concerned departments on high-alert and cautioned people to avoid visiting beaches
