Sayeeda Warsi resigns over Gaza

LONDON: UK Minister Sayeeda Warsi has resigned over the government’s policy on Gaza.

The British politician of Pakistani origin wrote on her twitter feed that she had tendered her resignation.

With deep regret I have this morning written to the Prime Minister & tendered my resignation. I can no longer support Govt policy on #Gaza

Warsi had been appointed to a foreign office post in 2012 and was also the minister for faith and communities.

She had previously been the chairperson of the Conservative Party and was appointed as the first female Muslim cabinet member in 2010.

Meanwhile, Leader of UK’s Labour Party and leader of the opposition Edward Miliband endorsed Minister Sayeeda Warsi’s stand over UK's policy on Gaza, saying ‘Warsi acted with principle and integrity’.

Edward Miliband tweeted:

I think Baroness Warsi has acted with principle & integrity. People around Britain have been shocked by the suffering we have seen in Gaza.
