ISLAMABAD: Co-chairman Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Asif Ali Zardari Tuesday said his party opposes deployment of army in Islamabad by the Federal Government through invoking of Article 245.
Zardari said this in his separate telephone calls to Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan and Ameer Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) Sirajul Haq.
In his conversation with Imran Khan, he reiterated PPP’s endorsement to PTI’s demand for a vote recount in four constituencies of Lahore.
The PPP Co-chairman said no one should be given opportunity to derail the ongoing democratic process in the country. “Democracy will be safeguarded and promoted,” he added.
He said the government should desist from taking irrational steps which may destabilize the democratic set up in the country. ‘The government should avoid taking arbitrary actions,” he added.
Meanwhile, Farhatullah Babar, the spokesman of PPP, clarified that PPP would not participate in Pakistan Awami Tehreek’s ‘Yaum-e-Shuhda’ announced by the latter for August 10.
He, however, added that PPP condemns the Model Town tragedy and demands registration of its case.
