LAHORE: Finance Minister Ishaq Dar spoke with the media following the meeting between Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and former President Asif Ali Zadari.
The finance minister quoting Mr Zardari said there was no question of Prime Minister Sharif’s resignation. Dar said during the meeting the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) expressed commitment to supremacy of law, constitution and continued support to the democratic system.
Dar said both parties emphaised a solution to the present political crisis within the law and constitution.
The finance minister thanked the PPP for its support and said Mr Zardari has said a solution should be sought in light of the constitution.
Meanwhile, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said that Mr Zardari had made it clear that the prime minister’s resignation would weaken state institutions.
Abdul Qadri Baloch said dialogue with the PTI was progressing and it was now up to the PTI leadership to agree.
Earlier, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and former President Asif Ali Zardari held a one on one meeting followed by party level talks.
During the meeting both leaders discussed the ongoing political crisis in the country. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif stressed that the supremacy of the constitution and law.
“People and political parties have rendered great sacrifices for democracy,” the former president said during the meeting. Mr Zardari said PPP believed in the stability of democratic institutions.
Mr Zardari was invited by Prime Minister Sharif to attend a lunch hosted in his honour. The former president was joined in Raiwind by Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah, Leader of Opposition in the Senate Aitzaz Ahsan and Parliamentary Leader PPP in Senate Mian Raza Rabbani. PML-N leaders Khawaja Asif, Saad Rafique and Ishaq Dar also attended the meeting.
