Aitzaz tirade: Nisar announces to forgive and forget

ISLAMABAD: In a bid to defuse the situation created after PPP stalwart Aitzaz Ahsan’s invective in the Parliament on Friday, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan Saturday announced to move forward by putting it all behind.

Addressing a press conference, Chaudhry Nisar said: “I forgive and forget the yesterday’s events in the Parliament.”

He said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and some ministers were trying to convince him to calm down the situation.

The Interior Minister said what takes precedence over his own sentiments and self-respect is the cause of democracy and what is in greater interest of Pakistan.

Chaudhry Nisar said there should be a tradition that arguments taking place outside not be brought into the Parliament.

He said Aitzaz's speech that he made yesterday in the Parliament be treated as First Information Report (FIR).

The Interior Minister said the allegations hurled against him be investigated by any judge. “Justice Wajihuddin and Justice Tariq Mhemood would be acceptable to me for the task.”



Nisar called himself a biggest proponent of Sharif Brothers on their back and a biggest critic in their presence.

He, however, lamented that never before in the history of the Parliament such remarkds were made against him.

Nisar contended that whatever was said against his family, particularly, his brother, he had a right to come up with a response. “If someone assailed me or my party, a reaction on it is bound to come,” he added.

Aitzaz’s response to Nisar’s allegations 




Aitzaz Ahsan responded to allegations leveled against him by Chaudhry Nisar terming them ‘pathetic.’ Mr. Ahsan called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif review his cabinet and the members who surround him in order to assess their loyalty.


Aitzaz said he had refused to appear before Iftikhar Chaudhry after his reinstatement. “Iftikhar Chaudhry was restored due to me though I am disappointed with him but I never appeared before him despite hefty fees offers to me made by different parties of Karachi,” he added.

He also recalled October 12, 1999 and said when Mian Nawaz Sharif appointed Khawaja Ziauddin Butt as the army chief and after being appointed Ziauddin made a call to Brig Allauddin Tirmizi who told him that he could not do anything till the notification. Aitzaz said the notification was not issued by a secretary defence who was a Rajpoot. “The younger brother of that federal secretary was house arrested on October 12, 1999 and got the breakfast from the GHQ,” he added.

He said he had many channels to do business through his politics or connections, but he did not do it as he did not want to. Addressing the PM, Aitzaz questioned him for how long he will apologise on the behalf of those who have already abandoned him.

Aitzaz said that the joint session of parliament was called on the advice of the opposition and only when the opposition stood behind him, the body language of the ministers changed. He said that before the opposition’s support, the body language of the PM and his ministers displayed disappointment and loss.

Responding to the LPG business allegations, Aitzaz admitted that his wife does LPG business. He said the LPG quota was deregulated in 2000 and his wife pays more taxes on the LPG business than any minister.

The angry Aitzaz then pointed towards Chaudhry Nisar and said he was still ‘showing him eyes’. “Still he is not only showing eyes to me but also to the prime minister,” the PPP leader said while pointing towards the interior minister. He said Nisar should know that the government was not doing anyone a favour by tolerating criticism.

“Mr prime minister, you must see if lighters are around you, if they are among your ranks,” he said and told the PM not to take shelter behind those who had betrayed him time and again.

Aitzaz said he was the only politician who had resisted all the four dictators of Pakistan and paid more taxes than all present. “The government must demonstrate wisdom as this is not student union politics,” he said.
