KARACHI: Quoting the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Pir Muhammad Shah, BBC Urdu revealed that a ‘Fatwa’ (decree) was issued against Karachi University’s Dean Faculty of Islamic Studies, Dr Shakeel Auj, over accusations of blasphemy by a local seminary, declaring him ‘Wajib-ul-Qatal’ (worthy of murder).
SSP Pir Muhammad Shah further told BBC Urdu that a sms message was also circulated about the Fatwa.
BBC Urdu quoted Superintendent of Police (SP) Abid Qaimkhani as saying that some of the teachers had developed a personal grudge against Dr Shakeel Auj over his appointment as Dean Faculty of Islamic Studies and in this connection an FIR was registered in Mubeena Town Police Station.
Earlier today, Professor Dr Shakeel Auj was on his way to Khana-e-Farhang here for attending a ceremony organized in his honour when he was targeted and killed by unknown gunmen.
It is pertinent to note here that a visiting faculty teacher of the same Islamic Studies department, Moulana Masood Baig, had also been killed just a few days back by unknown motorcyclists in North Nazimabad area of Karachi.
