MULTAN: The initial report of the Multan tragedy prepared by the district administration and police states that the stampede during the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) rally at Qasim Bagh Stadium was a result of the crowd exceeding the expectation of organizers.
The report was presented to Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif who has sent it to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
According to the report, the PTI administration had not made proper arrangements for such a large gathering and the stampede took place when people tried to exit due to heat and suffocation.
Meanwhile, a three-member committee to probe the incident has been formed by the Punjab government and will be headed by Secretary for Environment Iqbal Muhammad Chauhan. The committee also includes DIG Ali Amir Malik and Special Secretary Interior Dr Shoaib Akbar.
