ISLAMABAD: National Assembly Opposition Leader, Khursheed Shah met with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi here on Friday to discuss the appointment of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC).
During the meeting, Qureshi proposed the name of Justice (retd) Nasir Aslam Zahid for the post of CEC. Speaking to reporters following the meeting, Qureshi said the present Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has failed and the PTI would not accept any elections held under it. Qureshi stressed that his party wants an independent ECP.
Shah told reporters he was consulting other opposition parties on the appointment of CEC. He expressed hope that a new CEC would be appointed prior to the Supreme Court deadline expiring.
Names proposed for the CEC include Justice (retd) Rana Bhagwandas, Justice (retd) Tassaduq Hussain Jilani, Justice (retd) Tariq Pervaiz, Justice (retd) Nasir Aslam Zahid and Justice (retd) Mian Ajmal.
