DUBAI: The executive board of the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Monday approved the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)´s nomination of Najam Sethi, for the ICC Presidency.
Najam Sethi, a senior journalist is the former chairman of PCB. He was nominated by the PCB and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif reportedly approved it for the slot from Pakistan’s side.
The ICC board in its meeting in Dubai gave the approval for Sethi’s appointment as ICC president for one year, effective June 2015.
The formal announcement will be made in the ICC’s next meeting to be held in June 2015.
The presidency is now merely an honorific position with all the power in the hands of the chairman, following a re-organisation in June.
The Board also reiterated its support for the no-tolerance approach in dealing with suspected illegal bowling actions.
Pakistan´s Saeed Ajmal was one of five bowlers suspended over an illegal action following an ICC crackdown in June.
