KHAIRPUR: Firing incidents took place in Panj Gola Chowk, Kacheri Road and various other areas of Khairpur, injuring at least 18 people.
The first firing incident occurred when four-cabin shop was set ablaze on Phool Bagh Road, triggering tension in the area. Some angry mobs attacked shops in Kachehri Road, Shahi Baz and Station Road, shutting whole city.
Rangers and police personnel have been deployed to save the destruction of citizens’ property. Meanwhile, armored personnel carrier (APC) were also deployed in Panj Gola Chowk and various other areas.
SSP Khairpur Irfan Baloch along with Rangers personnel patrol on the streets to overcome deteriorating situation in the city.
Talking to media, SSP Khairpur said that curfew has been imposed in in Panj Gola Chowk, CID Mor, Phool Bagh, Faujdari Road and Kachehri Road. Police personnel are announcing in loudspeakers that curfew has been imposed, urging citizens not to rush out of their houses.
However, Deputy Commissioner Khairpur Muhammad Abbas Baloch told that curfew was not imposed, adding that only Rangers and police have been deployed.
He said that stern action would be taken against the rioters.
Baloch appealed to the citizens for to cooperate with administration for maintaining peace in the city.
Meanwhile, police arrested Jamaat e Ehle Sunnat Khairpur’s president Abdul Kareem among fifteen others.
