KARACHI: Adviser to the Prime Minister on Interior Rehman Malik has submitted his nomination papers for the re-election on the Senate seat Friday, Geo News reported.
Malik had resigned as a senator on July 10 after a case had been filed in the Supreme Court (SC) about his dual nationality. Sources told that since Malik had finally surrendered his British nationality, the party decided to nominate him for the Senate again.
Rehman Malik was accompanied by Chief Minister Sindh Qaim Ali Shah and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leaders Raza Haroon and Dr Sagheer Ahmed when he submitted his nomination papers from Karachi.
The interior adviser said that he had resigned due to the accusations leveled by the PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif against him, and also because it was said that the proposed amendment in the dual nationality law was approved to benefit him.
Rehman Malik has also submitted his affidavit regarding surrendering his British citizenship in the Election Commission of Pakistan.
Malik had earlier told the SC that he had renounced his British citizenship and submitted documentary evidence that failed to satisfy the SC bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
