ISLAMABAD: PML-N leader, Ahsan Iqbal says the People’s Party government wants to divide Sindh under the guise of division of Southern Punjab but they will not let that happen. He said the new provinces commission should not be formed for creation of only a single province.
Addressing a news conference in Islamabad, Ahsan Iqbal said that his party had moved a resolution for forming Southern Punjab, Bhawalpur, Hazara and Fata provinces. He further said that Hazara province was removed in the parliamentary commission.
Ahsan Iqbal was of the view that targeting the division of a certain province reeked of a political agenda and new provinces should be formed within the national framework.
The PML-N leader claimed that the formation of new provinces will change the balance of the Senate seats, there will be a dispute on resources and it will weaken the federation.
According to Iqbal, the government had a different stance on the new provinces at the time of the 18th Amendment but now as the election process is about to start, it has taken a new position on the issue, and some political forces want to use Punjab to divide Sindh.
