FAISALABAD: Students in Faisalabad were baton-charged and tortured by the police when they took to the streets to protest the death of a mate in a road accident Wednesday, Geo News reported.
According to sources, students were protesting the accidental death of another student named Haris on Tuesday and blocked the traffic on Jaranwala Road. They also forced the nearby market to close down the business.
Upon knowing the situation, heavy contingents of police and armoured vehicles arrived at the site to control the situation. They tried to resolve the situation through dialogue that failed and the students did not give up.
In order to disperse the crowd, police resorted to baton charge the protestors and after an hour, traffic was resumed on the road.
The demonstrators demanded to arrest the killer driver of the van who accidentally hit Haris when he tried to stop the van.
Police told that the family members of Haris have forgiven the driver.
