ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari will address an extraordinary session of the Khyber Pukhtunkhaw assembly today(Monday), Geo News reported.
President Zaradri would be the first elected President, who would be addressing any provincial assembly session on the invitation of the Chief Minister and Speaker of Khyber Pukhtunkhwa.
However, former military ruler Zia ul Haq had addressed Punjab Assembly on its 79th foundation day.
Speaker Karamatullah Chagharmati said that he had invited President Zardari during Saarc Conference in Islamabad to address the assembly and all is set for this special session of the assembly.
"The president's visit and address to the legislators will be a great honour for the assembly and people of the province," he said which he believed was happening first time in the national history.
Under the assembly rules of business, the governor can address special session. However, Mr Chagharmati said speaker had powers to relax rules and invite head of the state or any high profile dignitary to address the special session of the provincial assembly.
He said he had discussed agenda of the special session with the opposition benches and all members would receive President Zardari according to Pakhtun traditions.
