Snooker Champoin Asif receives warm welcome in Faisalabad
FAISALABAD: Pakistani cueist Muhammad Asif, who was an anonymous figure before winning World Amateur Snooker Championship took 2 and a half hours to cover 16 kilometer distance to get to his home from the Faisalabad Airport as hundreds of jubilant fans rejoiced all the way to his residence, showering the world champion with rose petals, Geo News reported on Wednesday.

DCO Faisalabad Wahid Akhtar welcomed the national hero by handing him a cheque of Rs100,000 and announced to name the road leading to Asif’s home after him. He also announced to establish a Snooker academy.


Trader fraternity also showered the champion with rose petals as he moved forward with his jubilant caravan before reaching his home, where his old mother had been waiting for her son after being informed of Asif’s arrival.

His mother fell unconscious due to overwhelming emotions as Asif reached his doorstep. He took his mother inside and met his sisters and embraced his little daughter only after being assured that his mother’s condition was stable.

Muhammad Asif thanked the entire nation for supporting him.
