Altaf Hussain tells workers to cancel protests

LONDON: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Chief Altaf Hussain Tuesday told party workers to observe patience over the judiciary's orders and cancel all the protests scheduled for coming days.

In a statement released here today, the MQM Chief issued the above directive to the party's Coordination Committee in Pakistan and in London as well as the workers and office bearers of all the zonal offices, sector and administrative units.

Earlier today, the MQM decided to file review petition, challenging the Supreme Court’s verdict regarding delimitation of constituencies in Karachi.

It is relevant to mention here that the apex court in its verdict directed the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to delimit the existing constituencies in Karachi.

In the latest statement, Altaf Hussain strictly prohibited the party workers from using inappropriate language for the judiciary.

He also strongly appealed to the 'workers and people' not to show up at the Supreme Court's premises on January 7 'for the sake of the sanctity of the apex court'. "Only let the constitutional and legal experts of the MQM appear before the court on that day, because I don't want the sanctity of the courts gets violated," he added.

Hussain said he did not want to adopt a path that leads to a confrontation and clash.

"Keeping in view the country's present situation and for the betterment and protection of the country, I would never want myself to become the cause of any clash," the MQM Chief said.
