ISLAMABAD: Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan has excused himself from representing MQM Chief Altaf Hussain in the contempt of court case notice against him.

In an informal conversation with reporters outside the Supreme Court, Ahsan said he had been approached to act as the counsel for Altaf Hussain. Ahsan told reporters that he would not take cases heard by a bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhamamd Chaudhry and had only made an exception when representing former Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani.

The Supreme Court issued a contempt of court notice to Altaf Hussain asking him to appear before the court in person on January 7. The court took notice of remarks made by the MQM Chief during his telephonic address regarding the Supreme Court’s ruling on the delimitation of new constituencies in Karachi.
