JHANG/GILGIT: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said Tuesday the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government is working for the welfare of farmers’ community in the country.
Addressing a cheques distribution ceremony under the PM’s Kissan (farmers) Package in Jhang, he said despite financial hardships, the government has announced an unprecedented relief package of Rs341 billion for the farmers community.
He assured that the government will facilitate and support the farmers and would not leave them alone in the hours of need.
Gilgit-Skardu Expressway announced
Earlier while addressing a ceremony in Gilgit, Prime Minister Sharif announced construction of Gilgit-Skardu Expressway at a cost of Rs50 billion.
He said that the expressway will be connected with China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) for generation of economic activities in the area.
The prime minister said an airport would be constructed for jet service in Gilgit.
The federal government was spending billions of rupees in the area for better communication facilities and other welfare oriented development projects, he said.
He said development in the far flung areas was the top priority of his government to bring them at par with the rest of the country.
PM Nawaz Sharif said efforts were being made to strengthen democracy in Gilgit-Baltistan and a committee has been constituted to workout political reforms in the area.
He said various steps were being taken to attract tourists to Gilgit-Baltistan.
The premier said work on various power projects including Bhasha Dam was in progress to tackle energy crisis.
In his address, Governor GB Mir Ghazanfar Ali said development oriented projects will be given priority for the welfare of people.
Speaking on the occasion, Gilgit Baltistan Chief Minister Hafiz-ur-Rehman said his government was determined to develop the area with focus on people's welfare.
