LONDON: Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) leader, Altaf Hussain, has announced to observe a nationwide ‘day of mourning’ on Sunday over the martyrdom of more than one hundred innocent people in Swat/Quetta bombings, Geo News reported.
In a statement issued here, he appealed to the masses to make this mourning day a success.
He also urged the traders to keep their businesses closed.
“I urge all the people to keep calm and remain peaceful. That is to say they refrain from violent agitation no matter what”, said he.
He said all the legitimate demands of the mourners including handing over the city to Army should be accepted without further delay.
MQM leader said the federal/provincial governments and political/religious parties should feel the pain of the mourners sitting in on the Alamdar Road by taking effective measures.
Altaf said it was highly unfortunate that political and religious parties were not raising their voice in support of the mourners who were holding a sit-in along with the dead bodies of the persons killed in deadly blasts in Quetta.
He asked what the responsibility of political leaders should be in these circumstances when the mourners were holding their sit-in despite rough weather conditions. He asked if politicking for seeking votes was the only thing that they want.
He said that it was a matter of grief for every citizen of Pakistan that no one was listening to the voice of people who were sitting with the dead bodies of their loved ones.
Meanwhile, MQM leader telephoned Prime Minister, Raja Pervez Asharaf and Interior Minister, Rehman Malik and recorded his protest over the government's cold and callous attitude towards those who lost their kin.
