EC to be briefed on govt deal with Qadri
ISLAMABAD: Members of a committee which held talks with Dr Tahirul Qadri to end a virtual siege of Islamabad during a sit-in staged by his Tehrik-e-Minhajul Quran, would brief the Election Commission of Pakistan today (Thursday), Geo News reported.

The committee, comprising leaders of the ruling coalition, had requested for a meeting with the ECP officials. The committee would brief the ECP on an agreement reached upon between the government and the cleric who demanded electoral reforms.

Minister for Law Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Farooq Hameed Naek on Wednesday presided over a meeting attended by legal experts. Participants of the meeting agreed that removing the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and Members of the ECP would be an unconstitutional act.

They said that the president had no justification to file a reference against the CEC.
