ISLAMABAD: Parliamentary Committee on new provinces has recommended ‘Bahawalpur South Punjab’ as name of new province in Punjab, Geo News reported.
Sources said the commission met here on Saturday and finalized recommendations for constitutional amendments for making new province in South Punjab.
The recommendation draft, singed by members, has been sent to ministry of law.
As per the recommendations, the name of new province would be ‘Bahawalpur South Punjab’, having 124 and 59 seats for provincial and national assembly respectively.
Provincial Election Commission and High Court will also be established in the recommended province.
Talking to Geo News, member commission Jamshed Dasti said draft of the bill for new province in South Punjab is being prepared and recommendations have been sent to law ministry.
Consensus was reached among the members on its name as ‘Bahalwapur South Punjab’. Its capital would be Bahawalpur and governor and chief minister will sit on the same place.
