ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) resumed hearing of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) officer Kamran Faisal’s death case Friday and gave ten days to NAB to submit its objections on the bench, Geo News reported.
A two-judge bench comprising Justice Jawad S Khawaja and Justice Khilji Arif Hussain heard the case here today.
During today’s hearing, the attorney general presented the notification of the judicial commission, headed by Justice (retired) Javed Iqbal, tasked to probe the death of Kamran Faisal.
On this, Justice Jawwad S Khawaja remarked that Javed Iqbal commission is not judicial but only an investigating commission.
The court, also, exempted the NAB Chairman Fasih Bokhari from appearing with a condition that he will ensure his presence whenever the court summons him.
Kamran’s uncle also pleaded to present his viewpoint in the court. Replying to this, the court instructed him to submit his written reply. Later the court adjouned the hearing till February 11.
It may be mentioned that Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah claimed that incomplete samples of Kamran Faisal were sent to the forensic laboratory and in order to get correct samples, his body would need to be exhumed.
In the last hearing on January 28, NAB Prosecutor General KK Agha expressed his no confidence on the bench hearing Kamran Faisal’s case.
Faisal, who was investigating the Rs22 billion Rental Power Projects (RPP) scam, was found hanging from a ceiling fan in his official residence in Federal Lodges, Islamabad on January 18. His death came three days after the SC ordered the arrest of Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf and 15 others in connection with the scam.
As the NAB Prosecutor General expressed his no confidence on the bench, Justice Jawwad S Khawaja asked him to submit his reservations in writing.
Justice Khilji Arif during the hearing said that if the reasons for no confidence were found tenable, then it might be considered.
Attorney General Irfan Qadir had told the court that an inquiry was already in process regarding the death of Kamran Faisal. He also submitted a letter confirming that a judicial commission headed by Justice (retired) Javed Iqbal was probing in the matter.
