ISLAMABAD: Rejecting the possibility of an alliance with any political party, Minister for Overseas Pakistanis, Dr Farooq Sattar, Saturday said the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) would independently run in the electoral race coming up, Geo News reported.
Talking to newsmen here, Sattar said MQM would contest elections with a manifesto of its own, however the option of seat adjustment with the like-minded parties would remain open.
"We were part of a coalition for five years but not anymore. We will go solo this time", said he
He said MQM’s alliance with Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) was based on five-points, which are: War on terrorism, strengthening the democracy, economic stability, making reconciliation policy successful, and stabilization of the country.
"We played our role as a responsible political party to achieve these targets," he maintained.
He said MQM had serious reservations over certain issues which will remain the order of an upcoming meeting between MQM leader Altaf Hussain and President Asif Ali Zaradri.
"Altaf Hussain will raise the question as to what benefits did MQM reap in the last five years being an ally of PPP", said Sattar divulging the docket of the meeting to be held in London.
On Karachi, the minister said the all the issues in general and lawlessness in particularly could be resolved with local government system.
“MQM has always supported LG system in the country”, said the MQM leader.
Sattar was categorical in saying that outlawed outfits were deteriorating the law and order situation in Karachi with Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) being the most active one.
He said political, sectarian, and ethnic target-killings were a conspiracy to destabilize Pakistan and its economy.
