Clashes, thin transport on roads as JUI-F observes strike in Karachi
KARACHI: Two vehicles were burnt and sporadic clashes were reported in many areas along with aerial firing incidents as Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) announced a shutter down strike in Karachi against terrorism, targeted killings and assassination of Ulema, Geo News reported Friday.

Clashes were reported in various areas while two buses were set on fire in Lyari area. Traffic was suspended in Quaidabad, Sohrab Goth and Abul Hassan Isfahani Road areas when angry protesters demonstrated on roads.

Commotion due to aerial firing was also reported near Steel Town.

According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Rao Anwaar, angry protesters pelted stones on police mobile that injured a sub-inspector in the area.

Religious and political parties, transporters, traders and private school associations have also supported the strike.

JI leader Muhammad Hussain Mehnti and spokesman of Ahle Sunnat wal Jamaat had appealed the people and traders to observe the strike peacefully and make it successful that is being observed over non-arrest of killers of Ulema.

Shia Ulema Council has also supported the cause and strike.

Private School Management Association has announced to close all the schools in the metropolis due to strike.

Talking to Geo News, President Electronic and Small Traders Association, Muhammad Rizwan said all the markets would remain close today to show solidarity with religious parties over the killings of Ulema.

Karachi Transport Ittehad has also decided to keep public vehicles off the roads till 4 pm.
