Neither I, nor party advised Ebad to resign: Altaf Hussain
KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Chief, Altaf Hussain Thursday clarified that Sindh Governor Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan had tendered his resignation on his own and that neither he (Altaf Hussain) nor the Rabitta Committee advised him to make that move.

"Every school of thought requested me not to let Sindh Governor step down," Altaf Hussaind said while addressing the 26th Convention of MQM's labour division via telephone here at Lal Qila ground.

He said in view of the country and nation's interest and for the sake of peace in Sindh he directed Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad to resume his responsibilities as Sindh Governor.

Hussain claimed that without his party's support, the government would not have survived 4 months let alone 4 years.

He said MQM had been subjected to many excesses and that the killers of his party workers were still at large without any fear of accountability. It is due to the collective mistakes and negligence of this nation that led to the bad law and order situation of the country, he lamented.

The MQM chief said the fact that public representatives are still without any local bodies system indicates how fake the existing democracy is. Be it Britain, France, Germany or America there is a local council in all these countries, he added.

"I am at a loss as to why the People's Party, that claims to be the flag bearer of democracy, imitating the imperial rule of the west," he alleged, adding the representatives of PPP must act wisely and consider themselves as servants of the people and not as monarchs.

He warned that 'if we can bring People's Party to power, then we can also set them aside'.

Expressing shock on the assassination of Malik Mumtaz, Altaf Hussain said he equally shared the grief of the journalists' community over this incident.
