KARACHI: In view of the prevailing law and order situation, the police have decided to adopt extra-ordinary security measures, Geo News reported.
Addressing a press conference here, Sindh police spokesman, Imran Shaukat, said that a seven-day deadline has been set for the residents of Karachi to take certain measures failing which could land them in a lot of trouble.
He urged the citizens to make sure the windowpanes of their four-wheeled vehicles as well as the visors of helmets were transparent and the license plates according to officially approved design.
Shaukat said that after the seven-day deadline all the vehicles bearing applied for registration (AFR), and fancy license plates would be impounded and their owners held.
"The violators will face charges under the Anti-terrorism Act after the end of deadline", the spokesman said.
He earnestly advised the owners of new vehicles to get the number plate within 15 days from Excise and Taxation Department.
He added that the citizens who surrendered illegal arms within seven days would be exempt from any action against them.
He said the auto spare parts dealers had also been advised not to sell helmets with dark-tinted visors as well as papers used to tint the car windowpanes. He warned that strict action would be taken against those who were found defying the instructions issued.
According to spokesman the decisions to this effect were taken in a high-level meeting.
