LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid-e-Azam (PML-Q) chief, Chaudhry Shujaat, Sunday warned that an undue haste in trying former president Gen (Retd) Pervez Musharraf for treason could lead to a serious waste, Geo News reported.
"Being a matter of extraordinary sensitivity a headlong rush to drag ex-military dictator through a treason trial for his Nov 3, 2007 actions will lead to uncontrollable consequences for then it will not remain confined to him only", said he talking to mediamen here.
Shujat said that singling out an individual or an institution this way could burst open a Pandora’s box, which no one would be able to put a lid on.
"It is not the matter of a person anymore, it never was. The government should practice extreme caution going down that road, for, I’m afraid, the upshots of their looking too sharp on it can prove detrimental not only to democracy but national interests as well", said he.
He summed it up advising all the political stakeholders to put their "interests" behind if they really wanted to change the lives of masses for the better, otherwise there wouldn't be any winners at the end of the day, but rather only losers.
