KARACHI: The Sindh Health Department has decided to introduce District Health Officers (DHO), which will replace the existing Town Health Officers.
Currently 18 town health officers have been looking after the Karachi Division, which will now be replaced by 6 District Health Officers.
Under the new setup, each district will be headed by one 20-grade DHO and his team will include one 19-grade Additional District Health Officer and 4 Assistant District Health Officers.
Sources confirmed to Geo News that a notification regarding the new set up would be released shortly adding that the new setup is being created in light of the local government elections.
According to the sources Dr. Shakoor Abbasi will be given the charge of DHO Malir, Dr. Ansar Ansari DHO Central, Dr. Athar Azizi DHO East, Dr. Iqbal Shiekh DHO West, Dr. Zulfiqar Shiekh District South and Dr. Zafar Ejaz who is currently working as EDO Health Karachi will get the charge of Director Health Services Karachi Division.
In new setup all the Sindh government hospitals, dispensaries and lady Health workers will operate under DHO supervision.
