ISLAMABAD: Dismissing the allegations leveled by Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), the election commission of Pakistan (ECP) said that it is an impartial and sovereign institution.

According to the statement, The ECP in its reply to President Asif Ali Zardari’s letter said that ensuring peace in the country is a responsibility of the caretaker government.

ECP has taken a notice of the allegations leveled by PPP and said that its members are free and unbiased, having no links with political parties, it said.

The ECP spokesman said that the President's letter regarding reservations over law, order and credibility of the government officers have been reviewed and answered that maintaining peace is the responsibility of law enforcement agencies and caretaker provincial and federal government.

However, it added said that the directives for providing security to political parties and candidates have been issued in the lights of President Asif Zardari's letter.
