NAWABSHAH: The city remained closed on Tuesday where the number of people killed in election related riots rose to four.
Shops, markets, educational institutions and banks remained closed. The city wore deserted look with traffic off the roads and all business activities coming to a grinding halt after the clash on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the funeral prayers of a former MQM councilor, Ghulam Rasool, who had been killed by some unidentified persons during the counting of votes between the MQM and the PPP, were held on the Sanghar Road. A large number of people participated in the funeral prayers.
Deputy Commissioner Agha Nasir told that immediate action will be taken against perpetrators involved in destroying peace in the city while additional police force has been called in different districts. Security has been beefed up at entry and exit points.
On the other hand, MQM has demanded re-election in NA-213 and PS-24 under the supervision of army.
It may be mentioned that four people were killed in an armed clash between two groups in Nawabshah district. Army troops were called in as panic griped the city after the armed clash.
