LAHORE: President Asif Ali Zardari has said that the Pakistan People’s Party was not provided level playing field during the election in Punjab.
Talking to a delegation of South Asian Free Media Association (SAFMA), he said that a party meeting was convened today (Monday) to review reasons behind the party’s defeat in Punjab. However, he said that the Returning Officer played their “role” in the election.
Replying a query, he said that he would have opted to resign as the president before election to spearhead PPP’s campaign. He, however, made it clear that he had no plans to resign now as it was of no use.
Zardari said that there was no leader to run PPPs’ election campaign as Yousuf Raza Gilani was making efforts for the recovery of his abducted son while Raja Pervez Ashraf had been appearing in courts.
The President said that the PPP had not come to its end and the party would devise its future course of action.
