ISLAMABAD: Accountant General of Pakistan has told the Supreme Court that former prime minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf had threatened him to release the funds, Geo News reported Tuesday.
A three member bench of SC headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was hearing the case related to release of funds for various projects by former premier Raja Pervaiz Ashraf a day before the government tenure was about to expire.
During the hearing, Accountant General Pakistan told the court that he was threatened by Raja Ashraf to release those funds for different projects.
Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said that funds worth billions of rupees were released for different development schemes on March 15, a day before the assemblies were dissolved. He questioned the Accountant General if he did not know about the restriction imposed by the Election Commission of Pakistan to sanction funds.
He further questioned if the AG had scrutinized the amount that Raja Ashraf had sanctioned for himself from time to time.
