QUETTA: National Party (NP) leader, Dr. Abdul Malik Baloch, was sworn in as 20th Chief Minister of Balochistan, Geo News reported.
The oath-taking ceremony was held at the Governor House.
Governor Balochistan Nawab Zulfiqar Ali Magsi administered oath to Dr Abdul Malik.
Earlier in the Balochistan Assembly session, 55 out of a total of 65 lawmakers, who were present in the house, reposed their trust in the leadership of Dr Malik.
Speaker Balochistan Assembly, Jan Mohammed Jamali, following the voting, declared Dr Malik as chief minister unanimously.
Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif had nominated Dr Abdul Malik for the post of Chief Minister after Pashtoonkhawa Milli Awami Party Chairman Mehmood Khan Achakzai recommended his name.
Dr Abdul Malik was consensus candidate of PML-N, PkMAP and NP for the top slot of the Balochistan government. Subsequently PML-Q and Jamiat Ulema Islam-Fazl also announced to support him.
Parliamentarians, senior government officials and representatives of civil society and media attended the oath-taking ceremony.
On this occasion, Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik pledged that he would do his best to improve law and order and resolve all long standing issues faced by the province.
Dr Malik said that he would make the province free of corruption and all government officials and other employees would be made bound to attend their duties regularly.
He said that 'approach' culture had damaged government institutions and no political interference would be accepted in transfer and postings of secretaries, commissioners, deputy commissioners and other officials.
CM said that he would pay special heed towards improvements in education, health and other sectors.
