ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has appointed senior distinguished ex-bureaucrat from Balochistan Muhammad Khan Achakzai as the Governor Balochistan following the advice of the prime minister, Geo News reported Tuesday.
Achakzaie is the elder brother of Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) chief and MNA Mahmood Khan Achakzai. He had retired from the federal government service a few years ago.
The PkMAP is a coalition partner in the Balochistan government led by Dr. Abdul Malik Baloch where the National Party and Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) are the other partners. The PML-N enjoys majority in the provincial assembly, but for the sake of national interest the party surrendered its right to head the government and withdrew in favour of Dr. Malik.
Mahmood Khan Achakzai said Muhammad Khan Achakzai was a well-respected bureaucrat and understood the intricacies of politics across the country.
