Karachi: Police disperse Lyari protesters

KARACHI: A large number of residents of Lyari held a protest demonstration on Mauripur road over the deteriorating law and order situation in their neighborhood, Geo News reported Wednesday.

The protestors pelted police and vehicles with stones and burnt the tyres, blocking the road for vehicular traffic.

The police resorted to aerial firing and used tear gas and water cannon to disperse the protestors.

Several people have been gunned down, while dozens of people sustained bullet injuries over the last few days in various parts of Lyari.

The protestors said that due to armed clashes between two groups, the area had become no-go-area for police and Rangers.

Heavy contingent of police and Rangers were also called in to disperse the enraged protestors.
