SC directs government to complete Musharraf treason probe
ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has concluded hearing the petitions seeking treason trial against former president General (retd) Pervez Musharraf and has ordered the federation to complete the investigation against Musharraf under Article 6, Geo News reported Wednesday.

A three-member bench headed by Justice Jawwad S Khawaja disposed all petitions seeking the initiation of a treason trial against Pervez Musharraf and ordered the government to investigate the case following Article 6 of the Constitution.

During the proceedings, Attorney General Munir A Malik assured the court that the investigation against Pervez Musharraf will be completed soon and that no time frame can be provided yet. He further said that he has no information about the formation of special court for trial as yet.

Justice Jawwad S Khawaja remarked that all eyes are on the government and hoped that there would be no further delay in solving the case.

Attorney General Munir A Malik could not appear before the bench in the last hearing due to prior commitments that is why the court had adjourned the hearing till today.

Earlier, he had informed the court that a special committee had been set up for the purpose of investigation and that a special court will be set up once the investigation will conclude.

Justice Jawwad Khawaja had remarked that the court should not be dictated about the order and that it will issue the verdict following the due process of law and constitution.

The bench had also assured that Pervez Musharraf will be provided justice and no partiality will be tolerated.

It may be mentioned that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had ordered the interior secretary to form an investigation team that would conduct an inquiry into Pervez Musharraf’s November 3, 2007 acts.

A four-member FIA committee had been constituted to interrogate Musharraf under Article 6.

The committee comprises two additional director generals and two directors. They are Additional DGs FIA Khalid Qureshi and Azam Khan and directors Hussain Asghar and Maqsood-ul-Hassan. The committee will present its report in the shortest period of time.
