LAHORE: Federal Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique Saturday announced to give compensation of Rs. 0.5 million to the heirs of those who were killed in Sheikhupura train incident, Geo News reported.
Addressing a press conference here, Rafique said that the incident was a national tragedy and its responsibility should not be shifted to one or the other. He said building of level-crossings would no longer be allowed.
He further said that the tragic incident took place due to a mistake of the auto driver and that a team, comprising DCO, DPO Sheikhupora and other officials of Railways, has been constituted to investigate the incident. Investigation team would present the report within 24 hours, he added.
Rafique further said that the train driver was also being investigated and the provincial and district government would not be allowed to construct level-crossings in future, however, permission for building underpass or fly over could be given.
