Ranger kills taxi driver in Karachi
KARACHI: A Ranger opened fire on a taxi, killing its driver in the remits of Gulistan-e-Jauhar police station here on Tuesday, Geo News reported.

According to police sources, a temporary picket of Rangers personnel signaled a taxi to stop but the driver failed to do so. The Ranger as a result, opened fire on the taxi, killing its driver on the spot. However, the 18 month old son of the taxi driver who was also with him remained unhurt.

This infuriated the local residents of the area who staged their protest in front of Gulistan-e-Jauhar police station, demanding arrest of the Ranger who fired at the taxi.

According to an initial report, the man of the paramilitary force was forced to open fire as the taxi did not stop despite their signal to do so.

Following the incident, Director General Rangers Sindh, Maj Gen Rizwan Akhtar, suspended the paramilitary man who opened fire on the taxi and ordered an inquiry into the incident.

According to sources, the concerned authorities later took into custody the Ranger who shot and killed the taxi driver.
